Náměstí republiky

Náměstí republiky (or the Republic Square), formerly Josefské náměstí, is a square on the edge of the New Town and Old Town. It was created with the founding of the New Town by Emperor Charles IV on the site of former moat, surrounding the Old Town.
There is a metro station Náměstí Republiky with entrances directly on the square.
Important streets Na Příkopě, Revoluční, Hybenská and Na Poříčí begin on this square.

- Powder Tower - A Gothic 14th century gate to the Old Town, beginning of the Royal Way
- Church of Saint Joseph - a simple Baroque church from 1636-53
- U Hybernů Palace - originally a church, later rebuilt to custom house, exhibition hall and most recently a theater
- Municipal House - an important concert hall and culture centre, built in 1905-12
- Czech National Bank - a monumental building from 1935-42
- Kotva - department store from 1975
- Palladium - new shopping centre, built inside Neo-romanesque barracks
